Rabi had always wondered how it would feel to lie against someone like this. Warm skin against warm skin, bodies cuddled up close—even more than sex, he’d wanted to know what this was like.

It was beyond perfect. He loved being cocooned under the thin motel sheets with Matthew. When he’d imagined this, he hadn’t even thought about what fingertips would feel like drifting over his skin. Or how much he wouldn’t be able to stop trailing his own fingertips all over the other man’s body. He hadn’t pictured the long, sleepy gazes, and the soft smiles, and the way tousled hair could make someone so adorable and sexy at the same time. He’d never thought about the satisfying ache in his muscles after sex, or how long a shower could last when he was too busy with lazy kissing and touching for anything else, or how drowsy he’d be. It was tempting to stay here all night and find out what it was like to wake up next to a man. What did Matthew look like when he was rumpled and sleepy?

But they didn’t dare. They could get away with cuddling for a while, but any more than that was too risky. He’d even set an alarm on his phone just in case they fell asleep.

That alarm wasn’t set to go off for another hour, though, and Rabi was in no hurry to move.

“If I’d known how good this would be,” Matthew murmured, “I’d have suggested it a lot sooner.”

“Nah.” Rabi kissed the top of his head. “It would’ve been too soon.”

“True. I just hadn’t realized how awesome it would be.”

“Me neither.”

Matthew trailed his fingertips up the middle of Rabi’s abs, the soft touch making every muscle contract. Grinning, Matthew did it again, and Rabi gasped as he grabbed Matthew’s wrist. Matthew chuckled. “Ticklish?”

“A little.” Rabi held Matthew’s hand firmly. “Not used to someone touching me. On bare skin.”

“But do you like it?”

“I love it.”

“Mmm.” Matthew wriggled his hand free and slid his palm down Rabi’s chest. “I could seriously get used to being able to touch you like this.”

“Me too. We might have to do this more often.”

Matthew grinned, but then his expression faltered.

Rabi touched his face. “What?”

Sighing, Matthew closed his eyes. “I want to do this more. I want to see you more, even if we’re not doing this. But . . .” He met Rabi’s gaze. “After tonight, things are going to be messy for a while.”

Rabi sighed. “No kidding. How did your dad take it?”

The grimace answered pretty clearly. “I think he’d have taken it better if the numbers had been closer. The landslide was a kick in the balls, though.”

“Yeah, I bet.” Rabi stroked Matthew’s cheek with his thumb. “And it’s probably going to get tense around town, too.”

Matthew nodded, but said nothing.
